Annual Carving Competition

May 8, 2010

 

The seventh annual James River Woodcarvers Association Carving competition will be held Saturday May 8, 2010 at the Woodcraft Store, 9862 West Broad Street, Glen Allen, VA 23060 beginning at 9 a.m.  Please note that the store location has moved.

 

The competition is open to all woodcarvers and may be entered by completing the attached entry form and submitting the entry form to JRWCA.  All persons entering pieces are encouraged to pre-register their entries and receive entry tags prior to the competition.  Entries must be delivered to the Woodcraft Store prior to the competition and MUST be accompanied by a valid entry tag.  Walk-in entries are welcome but all pieces to be entered must be delivered to the Woodcraft Store no later than 5 pm on Friday, May 7, 2010. No exceptions will be made for late entries.

 

There will be three carving classes:

 

·         Novice

·         Intermediate

·         Open.

 

The fee to enter carvings into the competition is $2.00 per entry, with a maximum of $10 for members.  Non-member entry fee is  $4.00 per entry, with a maximum of $20.  There is no limit to the number of pieces a carver may enter, but a carver may enter only TWO carvings in each category.

 

Judging will take place at the Woodcraft Store beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Friday May 7th.  The method of judging entries has changed from prior years.  Please see “Judging Criteria” in the competition documents.

 

All entries must be left at the Woodcraft Store for public display Saturday, May 8th and may be picked up after 4:00 p.m.

 

Other events during the day will include demonstrations by JRWCA carvers and exhibits of carvings by anyone who wishes to display their work.  The club is not responsible for any item entered or displayed.

 

Each carving entered in the competition will be eligible for additional prizes in a random drawing based on entry number.
